Bobs Cove Retreat

Bobs Cove Retreat

Bobs Cove Retreat, Lake Wakatipu

Our clients wanted a relaxing retreat in harmony with the grandeur of Lake Wakatipu and surrounds. A place to reconnect with nature and enhance the local environment.

Bobs Cove is where unique habitats of Beech forest, Grey Shrubland and Wetlands meet in the shadow of Mount Creighton. Searing summers can be followed by freezing winters with rainfall extremes.

The surrounding Limestone hills encouraged early human settlement and evidence of Limestone Kilns in the Cove is well preserved. With settlement came exotic pest species including Hawthorn, Broom, Rabbits, Possum and Stoats which stifled the native habitat for resident populations of Jewelled Gecko, Tui and Fantail.

Perched on a sloping site with variable soil types, shifting natural springs and unpredictable winds the site presented unique design challenges!

The brief included not only supporting native habitats but also local community groups and business passionate about the Lake Wakatipu environment.

A collaborative effort between industry professionals was required. Essential environmental practices included strategies such as planting natives grown from eco sourced seeds and the utilization of native mulch, sourced from wind felled trees along the adjacent road

Sculpted nature at its finest!
